My husband recognized him first. Hey isn’t that the famous chef? Who is that guy again? Well, hello Mario Batali sporting your bright orange Crocs with dark grey socks and matching bag?? Look at us both checking out Brooklyn’s own Smorgasburg. Let’s get inspired by all these hawkers of handmade food together, shall we?
Smorgasburg, at 27 North Sixth Street, between Kent Avenue and the East River (near East River State Park), opened last May – a delightful foodie gathering weekly in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A great way to spend a Saturday.
So what did we like, what did we taste?
A nibble from Bite size Kitchen – inspired by the distinct flavors and foods of Asia from the fragrant spices of India to the minimal complexity of Japan.
A delicious drip cup of cafe - Blue Bottle Coffee claim that their roasters undergo a rigorous apprenticeship before they are allowed to roast coffee for their discerning customers. The fifteen minute wait is well very worth it.
What is the difference between a macaron and a macaroon? Not just the spelling – Here is a full explanation on Chow.com.
So happy to let WeWork members in midtown know that we placed an order of salted carmel and roasted almond at Danny’s Macaroons for next Tuesday. The perfect 3 pm sweet pick me up.
Another member at WeWork also told us that cold brewing is a process in which coffee is brewed by soaking grounds in cold water overnight. After steeping, the coffee is filtered to separate the grounds and silt from the liquid. Thank god for Grady’s Cold Brew we won’t have to do it ourselves. This coffee lasts 30 days in the frig too.
We scored two bags(one rosemary and one sea salt) of hulless Pipcorn (popcorn) for a Monday afternoon tasting at The Snack Cart -made with love by brother and sister Jeff and Jessica Martin of PipSnacks.
I don’t usually eat a lot of meat, but the long line for Mighty Quinn’s slow smoked beef brisket with pickled onions drew us in. Absolutely delicious and currently in negotiation for a space (restaurant) in NYC.
There were so much more that we wanted to try - Handsome Hank’s Fish Hut, Pizza Motto. . .

We couldn’t pass up a sample of these Hong Kong cakes (taste like a waffle/funnel cake hybrid) were very yum.
And we look forward to seeing you Will from Home By The Range who will also be stopping by The Snack Cart this week with top-notch sandwiches featuring impeccably sourced meats and veggie salads.
